What do you think business in the future might look like? You may be thinking of something straight out of science fiction, and you could actually be not that far off! We already have contactless payments and deliveries, customer service chatbots, and business processes that can be done completely digitally. Even in our everyday lives, we can do most things from our smartphones.

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerging in almost every industry imaginable, great leaps in business are being made all the time. So what could business look like in a few decades? Being greeted by holograms? Completely automated restaurants? The future is wide open, but here are some projects being worked on in the tech world today that could have an impact on the future of business!

Brain-Computer Interfaces

Brain-computer interfaces create a direct connection between an enhanced brain and external device. Often the goal of a brain-computer interface is to create a direct relation between the brain and AI or the brain and components in the real world. Companies like Neuralink combine tech and neuroscience to create ways for the brain to communicate directly with machines, allowing for great leaps forward in what is possible in tech. For instance, brain-computer interfaces have great potential to be used in marketing. The ability to track user experiences through machine learning would mean great things for businesses developing marketing strategies.

Self-Driving Cars

Autonomous vehicles, or self-driving cars, like those made by Waymo and Tesla are able to navigate in the world with little to no human interference. Depending on the car, different methods are used to detect surroundings, from lidar to photographs; then an AI system determines what the best course of action to take is, based on the information it has gathered. While entirely autonomous cars do exist, they are not common on the road yet. However, once they become dominant, immeasurable time will be saved by people who no longer have to drive themselves. Instead of prepping for a meeting before you leave the office, you will be able to do it en route!

Space Transportation

It may sound counterintuitive, but travel through space could actually decrease the amount of time it could take to get from point A to point B. Many restrictions on travel time could be seriously reduced, saving companies money and resources, and opening up the ability to form greater international connections. With companies like SpaceX and Blue Origin already making great strides in this field, travelling through space to meet a client for a business meeting could be closer to happening than we think. This “out of this world” solution to long and exhausting flights with long layovers for work could be the next revolution in business travel.

Culinary Robotics

All jobs have menial, repetitive tasks. Things that you have to do frequently, and are performed the same way every time. Like filing paperwork at an office, for example, or generating business analytic reports. At a restaurant, prep work has to be done to get ready to make meals, and the overall goal is to make those meals the same every time in order to keep a solid customer base. But what if you didn’t have to have people doing these tasks at all? By employing a robotic chef, like the one created by Moley Robotics, you could reduce human error and time spent on menial tasks in the food industry.

While some of these advancements may sound like they come out of a science fiction book, they are actually closer than most people think! Maybe in our lifetimes, business could take great leaps forward by utilizing some of these futuristic technologies.
